Embroidered AotH Blocks

It was one of those nagging ideas that I couldn't shake until I played with it a little bit. Last Sunday afternoon found me deeply immersed in Embird, fiddling with digitizing the AotH blocks for embroidery.

Embroidery is 4" x 4"

It took me most of the afternoon to get this one block put together, but now I know how to do it and I have a system and the next two went much quicker. Here are the digital mock-ups, as I have yet to actually embroider them.

There are several inefficient things about how they will be embroidered, which is one of the reasons that I haven't embroidered them yet. I need to learn how to order things better and minimize jumps and sort by color, etc.

I ended up opting for full embroidery due to the size, although I did play with the applique option. I feel like the applique version requires significantly more software skills than I have right now, so I'm going to master the embroidery part and move on to the other features later on.

  1. Great idea. They seemed to transfer over into embroidery very well. Like the look :)

  3. They look really pretty. Sounds like a good idea to master one first and then hopefully the applique will be easier.

  4. Those are beautiful! I saw a machine at JoAnn's that is programmed to do the embroidery itself - is that the kind of thing you use? I don't know much about it.

    1. Yes, it is an embroidery machine. I have the Brother SE400. It is a lot of fun to play with!

  5. This AotH pattern is by far my favorite pattern you've used. I like the idea and look of the embroidery a lot. However, the fabric you are using for the original version is so pretty, I wonder how a mixture of embroidered and quilted blocks would look?
